Shared ownership Minimize

In the equine industry, horses are often owned by several different clients that all need to be billed for their share of the veterinary work. And it is no good sending these bills to the address where the horse is located as the owners are normally not there.

The ownership button in the bottom right of the patient screen allows you to define who the owners of the horse are and their different ownership percentages. Rxworks will automatically create the bills for each owner according to their ownership share saving you hours of work. On a change of ownership, any outstanding liability of the old owners remains with those clients and any new charges are allocated to the new ownership from the date the change took place.

The location button on the patient screen allows you to specify the location of the patient with directions and how to get there for the ambulatory veterinarian.

Equine Clinics Minimize

RxWorks has a wealth of functionality for the busy equine veterinarian, helping you run a more efficient and profitable clinic.  Our client list already includes many of the leading equine veterinarians in Australia, the UK, Asia and now leading equine practices in the US.

Having a system that allows you to store all your medical records, improve productivity and work flow and control your inventory effectively is a necessity.  Customizable screens, automatic billing to any referring practice or trainer, emailing or faxing of case notes and invoices are all part of the features designed into RxWorks to help Equine practices like yours.

  • Efficient recording of the visit, and medical notes both in the clinic and in the field (see below):  Charts that are specific to equine (dental, skin, identification, hoof, eye, foot etc) can be drawn directly on the computer screen  for the purposes of identification, lesion tracking etc.  Or you can scan and attach a chart to a patients file which has been previously drawn on in the field.  To increase the efficiency of recording the same treatment provided to multiple horses in a stable, the charges and associated medical notes can be duplicated over all of the horses you’ve treated, through a very quick and simple selection process.
  • Accurate, efficient and timely billing: Accounting allows for many different styles that will suit general monthly accounts, stud accounts, race track accounts.  For example studs and owners may like a statement with invoices for individual mares separated out.  General accounts simply require a chronological transaction list. You can customize these to your own requirements.  Syndicate billing provides automatic split or alternative billing of an individual horse to each of the owners, with RxWorks calculating each one's share of the treatment cost. This can be back-dated or forward-dated without reentry of data.  Change of ownership and merging patient records can be performed historically and/or retrospectively.  Location reporting is especially useful for owners with multiple horses spread around several locations or listing horses at one particular stud.
  • Patient History: RxWorks Mobile Veterinarian module also provides immediate access to the medical history of a horse while you are away from the office, and allows you to enter the visit details in the field or your car.  Have a view of this eLearning video which takes you through the main features of Mobile.
  • Standard Procedures: Procedure or protocol billing can be used for standard procedures to save time and provide consistency within the practice for charging off data entry sheets. For example, a service such as gelding can be setup as a procedure, containing a predetermined set of fees.  These can be edited once activated in the visit, but allows for consistency, saves time and avoids missed charges.
  • Comprehensive and Customizable Screens to store your medical records:  These can be developed individually for a species or sub-species.  For example you may wish to design different screens for Thoroughbred, Hacks, Eventers/Jumpers, Heavy horse, Ponies or any other category you wish to create.

Other functionality which we believe to be important for Equine practices includes:

Is your backup working? Minimize

Have you ever got a flat tire and gone to get the spare only to discover it is also flat? A backup is like a spare tire, you only need it when you need it. It is easy to forget about but when you need it you really need it.

That is why if RxWorks detects your backup has not completed successfully in several days, a warning message appears in the "Notifications" area half way down the blue panel on the left of your screen. We do not want you to discover your backup is "flat" when you need it most.

Remember your backup will contain all your patients medical records which you must have to effectively provide ongoing care to the patient as well as helping to protect yourself from legal liability. But just as importantly, it contains all that client and patient information that protects your financial well being. Imagine if you were no longer able to send reminders or you lost all your clients addresses and phone numbers, along with details of their animals.

For further protection you should always take a copy of your backup offsite every night. If your clinic burnt down and you had paper records, you would lose everything. If you are using RxWorks and you took a copy of your backup offsite that night, we can have you back in operation as soon as you can get a new computer and rooms to operate out of.

In addition, the RxWorks Server Configuration includes other important safeguards.

What Our Clients Say Minimize

RxWorks Mobile Veterinarian allows the busy large animal or equine veterinarian to access client / patient records, enter medical notes, produce invoices all from on-site or in the car.  Read how one busy equine veterinarian, Andrew Whitting, uses this invalubale feature in Victoria.

The temptation with all IT systems is to think that the technology will run itself. While this is true to an extent, to get the most out of RxWorks you need to understand it. Mark Lucey, one of five partners in a thriving ten-vet equine practice in the West of England, and Robert Magnus of Wisconsin Equine Clinic, Wisconsin, US, are both big believers in the adage that you get out of a system what you put into it. In these articles they examine their individual approaches to the purchase of a new practice management system.

Sydney Olympics Minimize

Back in 2000, RxWorks was chosen to manage the clinical records at the veterinary centre of the Sydney Olympics and Para Olympics equestrian events. RxWorks provided the network and software as well as a number of trainers to assist Olympic veterinarians in entering case histories into RxWorks.  All ultrasound, radiograph, endoscope and thermograph images taken during the Olympics were captured directly onto the patient files, a first for the Olympics.
RxWorks was proud to assist in such a prestigious event.
Nigel Nicholls, the Veterinary Services Manager of the Sydney Organising Committee said:

“International team veterinarians, specialist equine clinicians and horse connections were highly impressed with the presentation of case material and the versatility of RxWorks.”
