SMTP Settings - Enable Text Messaging

To enable text messaging, you must configure your SMTP settings.  If you do not already understand the technical reasons and are interest, you can find out some of the reasoning behind this here.

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol.  It is a protocol for making sure we send and receive mail to and from the right place.  It is the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol that makes sense of the name@isp.com e-mail addresses we have all become used to.

Previously this was done in the registry but it is now more accessible through Tool & Utilities > Client > Configure SMS > Configure SMTP Settings.

An entry in the SMTP Server field is mandatory.  This entry tells RxWorks where your SMTP server (general owned and/or operated by your Internet Service Provider [ISP]) is located.

Username and Password entries may not be needed, depending on whether or not your ISP requires outgoing messages to be authenticated.

Port is usually 25 but some ISPs use a different number.

If you do not know your username, password or SMTP server details you will need to get them from your ISP (Internet Service Provider). Alternatively you may be able to work them out by looking at your email account settings in Microsoft Outlook or similar email program.  In Outlook, these are found in Tools > Email accounts.

The Start Time restricts automated messages so that RxWorks will not send automated text messages earlier.  Set this to make sure you do not bother your clients at inappropriate times.  Remember that this does not apply to manual text messages and that this is the earliest time and not the only time.  RxWorks sends reminder messages at 9am.
