Document and Image Integration
RxWorks Document Integration provides a generic facility to allow external files to be imported into RxWorks and be attached to specific Client, Patient or Visit records.
RxWorks Document Integration can work with files in any format recognized by the operating system. This includes files for vendor-specific viewers that may be required on the end-user system to view and analyze data supplied in a proprietary format provided the viewer is installed.
How Does it Work?
RxWorks attaches documents, images and other attachments to various records by periodically looking for files in nominated locations (polling locations) and then joining those files to the records, according to the name of the file. (using the naming convention).
The program will import any files it finds that conform to the naming specification into RxWorks as attachments, and generates a summary log.
To assist the polling process, you simply need to name your files appropriately (according to the naming convention) and place them in the right place (a polling location).
Once RxWorks successfully imports files, the program will delete those files from the original location. The exception to this is where the program does not have the access to delete files from the original location.
Integration with Lab Result Provides
When being used for integration from a laboratory results provider, it is the responsibility of the provider to copy lab results files to the nominated results directory. They must also satisfy the image naming conventions. RxWorks will then periodically import these result files and make them accessible from within the RxWorks interface.
Polling with Windows Terminal Servers
In Windows Terminal Server systems, end users do not have access to
directories on the file server. In these cases, it is usual to create
directories on PC workstations for use as Polling Locations.
End users can use the local operating system on these machines to
place files from cameras, scanners, e-mail attachments and so on into
these directories to await transfer by the polling mechanism.
