RxWorks SQL Backups - Overview

The RxWorks SQL Backup is a fully automated backup of your RxWorks Database. The backup uses the advanced functions available through SQL Server for enhanced backup and recovery functionality.

The backup tasks run in the background throughout the day and do not require users to stop using the RxWorks system at any time. No user activation of the backup is required.

The SQL backup is a built-in function of your SQL Database Server. It is an integrated backup solution and is not initiated by a separate utility.

The RxWorks SQL backup is designed to ensure that all your RxWorks clinical data is backed up to a number of recovery locations. This means that in the event of a system issue, a choice of recovery options will be available to restore your system to full operation.

In addition to the RxWorks SQL backup, a full server backup routine is integrated into the RxWorks Server Solution. This routine performs a ‘backup of the backups’ so that there are multiple levels of data redundancy for emergency recovery.

There are some slight differences between the backup processes that occur on an RxWorks Server Solution and 3rd party server solution. These differences are outlined in the ‘Description of Backup Processes’ Section of this article.

All references to RxMain or MAIN in this documentation refer to using the main database alias. If your practice has multiple databases, there may be aliases set up on same machine. The alias names will reflect the alternative names to RxMain and MAIN, for example, RxEquine or EQUINE.

If you see a Backup notification and are unable to resolve the error, please submit a support request to RxWorks.

Data is the most important part of a practice, so make sure you are taking a copy of the backup off-site every night.
