RxWorks has many features that are useful for practices that specialize in services for breeding animals. As most practices that provide this type of service are equine practices, we will use equine terms in this summary. But, it applies equally well to practices dealing with other species.
Features for your Breeding Practice
Most of the features in RxWorks are aimed at keeping records of breeding activities. Others record the identities of the sire and dam of the foals.
We provide the capability to plan and track both pre- and post-natal activities.
Pre-natal Activities
Use the RxWorks’ Reports function to create treatment schedules for the mare. These show the client what your plans are to ensure that the horse is healthy enough to give birth. You can create your own schedules that match your practices standards of care.
RxWorks Procedures can be built for pre-breeding checks. Any ultrasound images can be stored in the visit work area as a history record and shown to clients on your computer. Results from any swabs or biopsies can also be recorded in the medical record.
Details of any frozen or chilled semen can be recorded in RxWorks’ Inventory function. RxWorks will automatically update the mare’s record with the date and the type of semen when it is used.
You can also build schedules and Procedures to test for pregnancy. And create others to monitor progress of the pregnancy.
RxWorks will update the mare’s record with the date of cover, last pregnancy test and date of foaling based on the treatments provided.
Post-natal Activities
Use Procedures to build templates for all of the services and products needed for foaling. All charges are automatically entered, typically with a single mouse-click. This helps avoid missing charges. It is especially important in hectic, pressure-filled breeding seasons.
Administrative tasks take second place to the care of the mare and foal and lead to a break-down in any manual process.
Each foal will be entered as a new patient with details of the dam and sire, as well as grand dam and grand sire. Blood type can also be included in the patient record.
Reporting
Reports are available on the value and number of those procedures that make up your breeding practice. They are available for any time period you want. Excel spreadsheets are created that can also be used for “what-if” analyses.
You can also identify those foals that belong to a particular mare. Similarly reports are available for those from a selected stud or type of semen. Also reports showing those foals that are descendants of a grand dam or grand sire can be produced.
Improve efficiency and patient care
Good patient care and your reputation depend on how well you communicate with your clients. Some recalls, reminders and documents are based on medications and other products. It is essential that they are setup accurately. Unfortunately, it’s a task with a low priority for staff and does not get done. We have built and maintain a Veterinary Supply Database to remove that risk.
The Recall Manager module takes the risk out of missing important client follow up calls. RxWorks provides a list of calls to be made for the day for each of the staff. It also provides management with the tools to ensure that none are missed.
Recommended Modules
Veterinary Supply Database, and Recall Manager.
Use marketing to grow your business
It’s important to every practice that you keep clients up-to-date with anything that helps you get more business. This is marketing.
Why not notify clients of any significant changes in your staff, protocols or facilities. This is just one of the possible marketing activities. You can post them on your website as well, but there is no certainty your clients will access that. An email or personal letter has more chance of being read.
RxWorks lets you easily select the clients that match the profile you want. You can then automatically merge data from the database to send Microsoft Word letters or emails. There is no manual effort other than mailing letters.
24/7 help with our Support Team
The nature of an emergency is that it is not a scheduled event. Just as most of you provide 24 x 7 services to your clients, you need the same from your software vendor. Especially as Murphy’s Law says that you will need support at the most inconvenient time.
RxWorks has dedicated support offices located in Australia, the United Kingdom and United States. The time zones in these locations mean the RxWorks Support Team are able to help you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We are there when you need us.
