Network Solutions
There are two main types of network used to run RxWorks.  The size and activity of the practice determine which is most suitable.

Terminal Server Network Solutions

This is the most common network used with RxWorks.  It consists of a main computer called the ‘server’ which hosts the RxWorks program and its database.  Workstations and other devices connect to the server using Microsoft Server and Terminal Services software.  Our latest server solution, the RxWorks 2008 R2 Server Load provides overall management of the network.  The terminal server solution ensures:

• High performance.
• Tight security.
• Maximum reliability.

Peer to Peer Network Solutions

Smaller practices that have lower activity can use a Peer-to-Peer network.  It doesn’t use a server and is less expensive to setup.  However, it has limits on the amount of data that can be processed at any one time.   It also requires all settings and copies of software to be kept on each workstation. This results in extra administration work.  Backups, recoveries and security are less capable than those of a Terminal Services network.  For those reasons, we restrict the number of workstations in a Peer-to-Peer setup.

Network Solutions for Multiple Practice Locations

There are several options available for practices with multiple locations. These include VPNs and dedicated communication networks.  The setup will vary with each business’s needs.   The quality of the connections that are available also affects the choice of setup.  Fortunately, RxWorks has experience with most of the options available.  For further information please contact your RxWorks Practice Advisor.

Using Remote Access to Connect

We can also help in providing access to your system when you are away from the practice.  The setup will depend on the type of IP address your ISP (Internet Service Provider) can provide you.
