Additional Hardware Solutions

Additional Hardware Solutions
To get a reliable system you must have compatible software and hardware.   RxWorks invests in making sure our recommended hardware has the capabilities to support our software. We obviously concentrate on the server as it is the most critical device.  The RxWorks 2008 R2 Server Load is the result of that focus.  However, other devices in your network can cause problems if they do not meet minimum requirements. That’s why we provide the following:

Additional Hardware Solutions with RxWorks

RxWorks pre-tests devices such as printers, routers and workstations to make sure there are no problems using them with RxWorks.  The reason is very simple.  We want to ensure they do not prevent our software from working the way it is intended.

We look into the reliability of a device and the support provided by its manufacturer.  Equipment that does not have a good track record will not make it onto our recommended hardware list. There is logic behind that approach. The cost of disruption in service is substantially greater than any marginal differences in purchase price.

Using Hardware Supplied by RxWorks

RxWorks can provide you with all the hardware needed to run an efficient system in your practice.  We guarantee any equipment we supply will work effectively in an RxWorks environment.  Our support team includes hardware professionals, trained to ensure that in the event of a problem, it is dealt with quickly and professionally.  There is little risk.

Using Hardware from Other Suppliers

You obviously have the choice to use hardware provided by other suppliers. We call this third party hardware.  There are however, some things you should consider when making your decision.

If your practice comes across a problem, the first call a staff member makes is usually to our support team.  That staff member may not always know whether the problem is related to hardware or software.  Our support team will have to spend time finding the cause.  However, if we do suspect the problem to be hardware and it’s not from RxWorks or set up to our standards, it may take much longer to identify.  The inevitable result is longer down time and increased cost for both of us.  Your supplier or hardware technician may also need to get involved to correct the problem – more down time and cost.

Hardware is not a major source of profit for us.  The reason we provide it is to remove as many possible causes of disruption we can.  As with medicine, prevention is better than cure.

Using Your Existing Hardware

No-one is interested in discarding any device that still has a useful life.  The question to answer is, does that piece of hardware have the capacity to do tasks needed?  If it can be used, that’s good news.  However, if it is a potential source of disruption, it is worth considering that the replacement cost will be much less than the cost and frustration of continual poor performance.

There is one piece of hardware that should always be considered to replace.  And that’s the server.  The performance of the server depends on the combination of the hardware and server load.  If the server does not have the same configuration as needed by the RxWorks Server Load, the chances and costs of disruption are greater.  It will be better to use the existing server as a workstation rather than risk the reliability and effectiveness of your system.
